The HLPF 2026 will focus on SDG6 – Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG7- Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities.

The Global Cities Hub is at the forefront of linking LRGs and international organizations to address the most pressing challenges faced by urban centers worldwide. Engaged in a diverse array of initiatives, GCH fosters collaboration among cities,  mayors and city networks to strengthen inclusive multilateralism in the Geneva ecosystem, including the United Nations. Our work spans critical areas including environment and climate change, smart city development, protection of human rights, and promotion of urban health. By facilitating knowledge exchange and joint action, we aim to create sustainable, inclusive, and resilient urban environments for all.

United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance Opens in Geneva

The 1st session of the United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance opened on 6 July 2026 in Geneva. The Global Dialogue aims to provide a platform for exchanging experiences, perspectives, and ongoing initiatives related to AI governance and to advance global discussions on the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence.

Local Governments and Peaceful Protest

At the UN Human Rights Council side event on peaceful protest, the GCH argued that the recognition of the role of local and regional governments (LRGs) needs strengthening. As LRGs make practical decisions on crowd management, public safety, and policing, GCH proposed the creation of a concise guide for officials to ensure human rights-compliant protest management.

GCH and WeGO Renew Partnership to Advance Inclusive Multilateralism

Today, the Global Cities Hub (GCH) and the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO) signed a new Memorandum of Understanding, reaffirming a partnership driven by a shared conviction: cities and local and regional governments have a vital role to play in addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing humanity.
